Statesville Record & Landmark and statesville.com is searching for an experienced Managing Editor to oversee a 12-person reporting staff. The editor must be committed to leading an excellent, local newspaper and website and be equally passionate about growing our audience through social and mobile media. The editor must possess exceptional writing skills and the heart of a teacher and coach. We want our Managing Editor to be active in the community, display a command of multimedia journalism, and genuinely understand the community and readers we serve.
Tech Skills:
Hardware:
Personal computer, usual office machines such as fax and copier.

Software:
Microsoft Word to a high level. Outlook to a medium level. Basic skills in Excel and PowerPoint.
Job Skills:
Must be an excellent writer with perfect spelling and grammar, know how to tell a story and not just the facts. Must be an excellent coach and know how to develop and motivate new and existing staff members. Must understand libel laws and how to protect the integrity of the news product. Must understand the traditional print media well and understand how to transform a newspaper into a multimedia content producer in web, mobile and social media. Must have good management and interpersonal skills. Must set a standard of excellence and hold yourself and others to that standard. Must have a passion for community journalism, a commitment to be active in the community,and a passion for our products and compassion for the people we serve and write about. Must know how to connect to the audience and be familiar with major industry initiatives. Must understand how news works in teamwork with the rest of the media team.
Minimum Education:
Bachelor's Level Degree
Journalism or English
Minimum Experience:
5 yrs. of experience.

A track record of extensive writing experience is essential. Management experience in a newspaper is essential. Multimedia journalism experience is essential. A record of community involvement and leadership is preferred.
